FCL: full container load
You get the whole container. It's the better choice once your cargo fills most of a 20 ft container (roughly 25 to 28 cubic metres), or when the goods shouldn't be handled alongside other cargo.
Container types we book:
- 20 ft, 40 ft and 40 ft high cube dry containers
- Reefer (refrigerated) containers
- Flat racks for machinery and oversized cargo
- ISO tanks for liquids
- Hazardous cargo with the correct declarations
LCL: less than container load
Your cargo shares a container with other shippers and is charged by volume (per cubic metre) or weight, whichever is higher. LCL suits smaller shipments, but it adds time for consolidation at origin and de-stuffing at the CFS here. We'll tell you when FCL works out cheaper than LCL. It happens sooner than most people expect.
What's included
Booking with the shipping line, pickup at origin through our partners, Bill of Lading, customs clearance at the Indian port, and delivery. We quote shipping line and local charges openly so there are no surprises at delivery order stage.
Free days and detention
Shipping lines give a limited number of free days before detention and demurrage start. Getting documents to us before the vessel arrives is the simplest way to stay within them.
Frequently asked questions
Should I choose FCL or LCL?
If your cargo is more than about 13 to 15 cubic metres, compare both. FCL is often cheaper per unit at that point, faster, and your goods aren't handled with other cargo.
Which ports do you ship through?
Mainly Nhava Sheva (JNPT), with Mumbai Port and Mundra when they suit the cargo or destination.
Do you handle special containers?
Yes: reefers, flat racks, ISO tanks and hazardous cargo, subject to shipping line acceptance.
Is customs clearance included with ocean freight?
We can include import or export clearance, and delivery, in the same quote.
