Import customs clearance in Mumbai

From the Bill of Entry to the truck at your gate. We clear import cargo arriving at Nhava Sheva, Mumbai Port and Mumbai Air Cargo, and tell you the duty before you have to pay it.

The import process, step by step

  1. Pre-arrival check. We compare the invoice, packing list and Bill of Lading or Air Waybill. Quantity, weight, description and value should agree across all of them. Most delays start with a mismatch here.
  2. Classification and duty. We confirm the HS code and work out basic customs duty, IGST and any other levy. If a lower duty applies under a trade agreement, we'll tell you what certificate of origin is needed.
  3. Bill of Entry filing. Filed on ICEGATE, often before the cargo lands, so assessment can start sooner.
  4. Assessment and queries. If the assessing officer asks for a catalogue, a valuation explanation or a test report, we handle the reply with you.
  5. Duty payment and examination. You pay the duty online. If the shipment is picked for examination, our staff attend it.
  6. Out of charge and delivery. We collect the delivery order, settle terminal or CFS charges with you, and arrange transport.

Products that need extra paperwork

Some imports can't be cleared without a licence or registration. We see these often:

  • Electronics and many consumer products: BIS registration
  • Medical devices: CDSCO import licence
  • Pre-packed goods for resale: LMPC registration and correct MRP labelling
  • Products in plastic packaging or covered by e-waste rules: EPR registration with CPCB

If you're missing one, it's better to find out before the cargo ships. We can help you get most of these. See licences and compliance.

Send us these documents

  • Commercial invoice and packing list
  • Bill of Lading (sea) or Air Waybill (air)
  • Your IEC and GST details
  • Product catalogue or technical sheet if the item is unusual
  • Any licence or certificate the product needs (BIS, CDSCO, FSSAI, etc.)

Charges, plainly

Customs duty, port or terminal charges, CFS charges and shipping line charges are paid to those parties. Our fee is for clearance and coordination, and we quote it separately so you can see exactly what you're paying for.

Clearance is filed under Customs Broker licence CB 11/1467 held by our sister concern, Sarthak Shipping Service.

Frequently asked questions

How is import duty calculated in India?

Duty depends on the HS code, the assessable value (usually CIF value), the country of origin and any exemption notification. It typically includes basic customs duty, social welfare surcharge and IGST. We give you an estimate once we see the invoice.

Can the Bill of Entry be filed before the cargo arrives?

Yes. Advance filing is allowed and usually saves time. We need the final invoice, packing list and Bill of Lading or Air Waybill to do it.

What happens if customs selects my cargo for examination?

Our staff attend the examination with the officer. If the goods match the declaration, it's usually released after the examination report. If something doesn't match, we explain the options to you.

Do you arrange delivery after clearance?

Yes. We can arrange a truck or container trailer from the port, CFS or airport to your warehouse in Mumbai or elsewhere in India.
